College of Veterinary Medicine Biomedical Sciences Associate Teaching Professor Cathleen Kovarik was recently honored with a Golden Aesculapius Award. Every year students in each of the CVM classes vote for an outstanding teacher. Kovarik, DVM, PhD, was recognized by the Class of 2020 during the college’s annual Honors Banquet as their choice for this years’s award.
Kovarik served as the course director as the first-year students studied veterinary neuroscience and also taught portions of the small animal anatomy and the large animal anatomy courses.
“I enjoy interacting with the students and I am honored that they picked me for this award,” Kovarik said.
Kovarik, who earned her DVM at Colorado State University and a PhD at Iowa State University, has been with the MU CVM for 12 years. This is not the first time her students have recognized her teaching ability. In 2016 the MU CVM Student Chapter of the Veterinary Medical Association awarded her a Teaching Award for Basic Sciences.
